Start here: your first $100 online
If you want one plan instead of nine options, this is it. Roughly four to six weeks on a few hours a week, and it is the order I would give a friend rather than the order that is easiest to sign up for.
The whole idea is one sentence: start the slow, well-paid things first, and use the fast, badly-paid things to fill the gap while you wait. Almost everyone does this backwards. They join a survey site on day one, earn $4 in a week, and conclude the whole category is a scam. The survey site was not the problem — the order was.
Before you start: three rules
- Never pay to join. Legitimate platforms are paid by their clients. Any joining fee means walk away.
- Never give card details at registration. Payment details are needed at cashout, not sign-up.
- Ignore anything quoting daily earnings. “$300 a day” hides how many hours and how much luck.
Use a separate email address for all of this. Panel mail is relentless and you will want it out of your main inbox.
Week 1, Monday: apply to the slow ones
These take one to four weeks to respond. That is exactly why they go first — the waiting happens in the background while you earn elsewhere.
Two user testing platforms. You browse a website talking aloud, and a company pays for the recording. Twenty minutes, $10–$60, no skill required beyond speaking. You will need a microphone and somewhere quiet. There is usually a practice recording before you are accepted, and almost everyone who gets rejected fails it by going silent while they think. Narrate everything, including your confusion.
One paid research panel. Focus groups and interviews paying $50–$300 for 60–90 minutes. This is the best-paying thing available to someone with no specialist skills, and hardly anyone knows it exists.
Week 1, same evening: start earning something
Now join one platform that accepts you immediately, so the four-week wait is not four weeks of nothing. Realistic expectation: $3–$6 an hour. Genuinely useful for filling twenty-minute gaps, genuinely not a plan.
Two things that make a material difference: complete your whole profile, because panels match on demographics before letting you in; and try weekday mornings, when there is noticeably more available than in the evenings.
Week 2: the one that pays properly
If you can write a clear paragraph and follow a detailed brief, apply for AI annotation work. $15–$25 an hour — the best-paying non-specialist work in this whole category, by a wide margin.
The barrier is an application and a written assessment, and a wait of one to three weeks. That is the entire reason more people do not do it, and it is why it is worth starting in week two rather than week six.
Worth saying plainly: we earn nothing from the AI section. Those platforms do not run affiliate programmes. It is here because it pays the most.
Weeks 3–4: your first real payment
Your first user test should land around now. Twenty minutes, $10–$60. This is the moment the plan clicks, because you will have earned more in twenty minutes than in your first fortnight of surveys — and you will understand why the order mattered.
Weeks 4–6: crossing $100
A paid research session, if one comes through. $75–$150 on its own. Not guaranteed, but this is the single biggest payment available in the plan.
A second open platform. Adding one more panel is the biggest improvement most people can make to their hourly rate — not because the second one pays better, but because when the first has nothing you qualify for, you go to the other instead of sitting through disqualifications.
What not to do first
Do not start with money-making apps and games. $2–$8 an hour, fun, and a very efficient way to spend three weeks earning $11.
Do not join eight survey panels on day one. Three is the practical maximum before profile upkeep costs more than the extra invitations are worth.
Do not believe anyone quoting more than about $25 an hour for unskilled online work. That is roughly the ceiling. Anything above it involves a skill, a licence, or a lie.

- First withdrawal completed — and check it actually arrives
That last one matters more than it looks. Withdraw early, even a small amount. A platform that pays $3 promptly is worth more than one showing $30 you cannot extract. It is the first thing I check on anything new, and it is why every review on this site states what actually landed rather than what was earned.
